How I work

Counselling is about more than having somewhere to talk. It is about feeling heard and understood, particularly when what you are experiencing is difficult to explain, make sense of, or share with the people around you.

I work integratively, drawing on different therapeutic approaches depending on you and what you bring to counselling. We might look at what is happening in your life now, explore experiences from your past, or begin to notice patterns in how you think, feel, behave or relate to other people. Often these things are connected, and understanding those connections can help something that previously felt confusing or overwhelming begin to make more sense.

Empathy is at the heart of how I work. I will take the time to understand your experiences from your point of view, including the things that may feel painful, complicated or difficult to put into words. We can explore these together, with curiosity and without judgement, at a pace that feels right for you.

Counselling is something we do together. I will listen carefully, ask questions, notice connections and sometimes offer a different perspective. Part of our work may also involve gently challenging thoughts, assumptions or patterns that could be getting in your way, helping you develop a greater understanding of yourself and discover new possibilities for how you move forward.

What I can help with

You don't need to have a name or a clear explanation for what you're experiencing before you begin counselling. Some of the things I can help with include:

  • Anxiety, depression and overthinking

  • Bereavement, grief and anticipatory grief

  • Loss and significant changes in your life

  • Relationship and family difficulties

  • Self-esteem, confidence and how you feel about yourself

  • People pleasing and difficulty putting your own needs first

  • Guilt and shame

  • Difficult experiences from the past and the impact they may still have

  • Feeling disconnected from other people or from your sense of yourself
